Social and Emotional SupportsAt PVMS the School Counselors provide a variation of support opportunities for students throughout the school year.
Classroom Lessons During advisory our students are provided social/emotional curriculum via Character Strong. CharacterStrong provides research-based Pre-K through 12th grade social & emotional learning curriculum and professional learning services that positively impact the students served. Students also directly receive classroom lessons throughout the year from their grade level school counselor. These topics include: Meeting your counselor, Organizational and Academic Success, Time and Stress Management, Bullying and Harassment and more... Small groups Small Groups can be formed based on the needs of our students. Counselors, teachers and parents work together to identify students that would benefit from this form of support. Small groups are optional for participation. Small group counseling involves students working on shared tasks and developing supportive relationships. It is an effective and positive way of providing direct service to students with academic, career and social/emotional developmental and situational concerns. Small group counseling can help reduce social isolation and negative emotions. It encourages positive peer relations while developing a sense of belonging. Small groups create a climate of trust, caring, understanding and support that enables students to share their concerns with peers and the school counselor. Individual Meetings Students and parents can request a meeting with their counselor. This can be completed in various ways. Students can go to their grade level Schoology page to request to meet with their counselor, email and or stopping into the student services office at requesting a time with Ms. Anderson our Counseling Administrative Assistant. Parents are welcome to email and or call the school to discuss concerns and request a meeting.
